Oscar and Joe, both of 3 Rivers ESU, have gained their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze awards. The award is broken down into three sections: volunteering, skill, physical and expedition and both Oscar and Joe have shown commitment and dedication to completing their awards by participating in activities relevant to each of these sections. From the volunteering, skill and physical sections, participants have to choose one of these to complete for 6 months, whilst they also have to complete the others for 3 months.
Oscar did the physical section for six months by playing tennis at Braintree Lawn Tennis Club with the aim to improve his serve. He volunteered with 1st Black Notley scout group in their Beaver section as a young leader for three months and also did an online course in cooking for his skill section.
Like Oscar, Joe chose to complete the physical section for six months and did this by playing tennis on a weekly basis to improve his game and develop his skills. He did his volunteering section for 3 months, helping out at Braintree Library for the summer reading challenge and his activity for the skills section was an online course in Young Enterprise.
Both Joe and Oscar completed their expedition in the same team, walking across the Essex and Suffolk countryside starting at Greenstead Green and finishing up at Long Melford. You can find out more about their expedition by clicking here.
A massive well done to both Oscar and Joe for completing their Bronze award which will help them towards earning their Chief Scout Platinum Award.
