Duke of Edinburgh Team Member (Expedition Co-ordinator)

We are looking for a driven individual to co-ordinate and organise expeditions for our young people participating in our Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.

Responsible to:  Duke of Edinburgh Team Leader, 14-24 Team Leader

Responsible for:  Duke of Edinburgh Participants

Key Tasks:

  • Arrange the training and planning sessions for those participating in the expeditions, including arranging a venue and delivery of the session
  • Ensure that enough adults are present for training, planning sessions and the expedition itself
  • Support the participants to ensure they have the knowledge and ability to complete their expedition
  • Arrange for the necessary equipment to be lent to the participants and ensure it is returned in good condition
  • Organise the transport of young people and kit to the expedition location (Silver and Gold)

Time Commitment:

  • Time commitments will vary year-on-year depending on how many expeditions are required dictated by the demand from those signed up to the award. As a rough guide, the following will be needed as a minimum:
  • 4 x 1 hour training sessions
  • 2 x 1 hour planning sessions
  • 2 expeditions (practice and qualifying - 3 days/2 nights for silver, 4 days/3 nights for gold

Required Qualifications:

  • To complete all mandatory training for the scout association in accordance with Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR) - Essential Information, Safety, Safeguarding, First Response and GDPR
  • Hold a valid Scouting DBS
  • Hold a Nights Away permit (desirable, not essential)
  • Accredited Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Assessor (desirable, not essential)

All these qualifications can be achieved after taking on the role. Training and support will be given to help you to achieve this.
